Another former SAC Capital portfolio manager, who signed up to Moore Capital Management after Steve Cohen’s former hedge fund closed its London office in 2013, has now left his new employer.
Bramen Singanayagam, who joined Moore Capital as a portfolio manager in February 2014 along with eight other portfolio managers and analysts who left SAC Capital after its closure in November 2013, has now departed. He left in August, according to regulatory filings, having been promoted to partner in May 2016.
Of the nine-strong team lifted out of SAC by Moore in 2014, just two – Louis Villa and Martin Stapleton – now remain. Moore Capital now has 72 people working in FCA-approved functions, down from 83 at this point in 2015.
Coincidentally, Steve Cohen’s family office Point72 Asset Management has been aggressively building its London operation following its relaunch in the UK. Three of the former Moore Capital employees have returned to Point72. Israa Al Bayaa, a utilities and infrastructure focused portfolio manager, joined as a partner, as did global long-short portfolio manager Arjun Menon as head of capital markets. Analyst Atallah Estephan also re-joined the hedge fund.
In May, Alexios Papaconstantinou, who joined Moore as a portfolio manager with a focus on event-driven strategies from SAC, departed. Meanwhile, Nicholas Aldridge, who also joined Moore as part of the SAC team lift-out, left in April and Greg Nataf, who joined Moore from SAC in 2008 as a portfolio manager, left in May.
The nine investment staff to join Moore Capital in February 2014 were Israa Al Bayaa, Nicholas Aldridge, Arjun Menon, Alexios Papaconstantinou, Bramen Singanayagam, Martin Stapleton, Louis Villa, Atallah Esptephan and Rahil Kuchiera.
Singanayagam’s destination is not yet known, but Point72 is still in the midst of building its London operation, which could eventually house 70 people and has stated previously that it could target former employees.
