Citadel has hired Rajiv Shukla, an executive director and a senior technologist at Morgan Stanley, as a director in its New York office.
Shukla joins Citadel with 23 years of experience, eight of which were gained at Morgan Stanley. At MS, he was the global head of development of market data systems and head of the related development teams in North America, EMEA, and APAC. Before arriving at the bank, he worked for Bloomberg LP as a programmer and development manager in R&D for over seven years and managed a team of programmers in New York and London.
Shukla’s data specialism makes him a desirable hire right now. He specializes in designing and developing full market data stacks across multiple asset classes, normalization engines, and distribution systems for normalized data among other things, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Citadel hired Li Deng from Microsoft as chief AI officer in June 2017, and will need advanced data architecture if it’s to successfully implement trading strategies based on machine learning. The fund has been stocking up on technologists after recruiting Anish Jindal. also from Morgan Stanley, for its technology team last month.
Shukla has a masters in Computer Science from the University at Albany in NewYork. He began his career as a programmer at Action Technologies but switched to Telcordia Technologies within a year. In 1997, he joined GTE Laboratories only to move back to Telcordia after 12 months, where he remained for the next five years, before joining Bloomberg in 2003.
