If you work for Credit Suisse’s investment bank in London, you probably know Mark Barbour-Smith. As COO for M&A in EMEA, he was also responsible for the training and development of Credit Suisse’s investment bankers.
Now, however, he’s left the Swiss bank after nearly ten years to join Rede Partners, an advisory firm that provides fund-raising services for private equity firms, as chief of staff.
Barbour-Smith is a former M&A investment banker at HSBC who moved across to the operational side of the business in 2005 for the IBD in both London and New York.
He joined Credit Suisse in November 2007, and was chief operating officer M&A EMEA and EMEA head of training and development for its investment banking division.
Credit Suisse has been downsizing its UK operation, but the vast majority of job cuts were on the trading floor rather than within its advisory business. Rede Partners seems like a smaller task for Barbour-Smith, however – it has just 27 staff currently, the vast majority of which worked for investment banks or private equity companies before joining.
